Govt believes in encouraging regional trade: Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (APP): Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar  said Wednesday that the PML-N government believed in encouraging regional trade and good relations with its neighbors as regional cooperation had a great potential for accelerating growth in their economies for the betterment of people of this region. He stated this while talking to a World Bank delegation led by Philippe Le Houerou, Vice President of the World Bank here. Houerou said that the World Bank appreciated the direction set by the present government and would like to continue to be partners and take the relationship to the next level, after a successful conclusion of a programme with IMF.
He said that he chose to visit Pakistan as his first trip because he wanted to have a personal discussion with the new government.
The Vice President of World Bank said that in view of the  economic policies and stabilization measures taken by the government the World Bank was now ready to work out a 1.5 billion dollars programme for the current fiscal year, to support the government’s economic policies.
On Bhasha Dam, Houerou said that Asian Development Bank was carrying out due diligence of the project and once that was completed we will start working on it.
He informed the Finance Minister that there was a great interest of foreign investors in Pakistan, especially in the energy sector.
