Nawaz, Karzai hold talks in Murree

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Afghan President Hamid Karzai held another in Murree today (Tuesday).

The leaders discussed border situation and possible cooperation in war against terrorism.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar‚ Advisor on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatimi and Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani also attended the meeting.

During meeting, the leaders discussed regional security situation besides other issues including ways to eliminate terrorism and further improve Pak-Afghan ties to bring stability and peace to the region.

Earlier, Prime Minister Muahmmad Nawaz Sharif and President Hamid Karzai held one on one meeting in Islamabad this morning and exchanged views on bilateral issues besides discussing regional situation with particular focus on post-NATO troops withdrawal from Afghanistan next year.

They also discussed border situation and possible cooperation in war against terrorism.

The Afghan President requested Pakistan to assist in ongoing reconciliation process in Afghanistan to bring peace and stability in the country.

It is pertinent to mention that the Afghan President extended his visit for a day on the request of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

A high-level delegation is accompanying the Afghan President including Foreign Minister Dr. Zalmai Rassoul, National Security Adviser Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta, Finance Minister Dr. Hazrat Omer Zakhilwall, Commerce and Industries Minister Dr. Anwarul Haq Ahady, and Chairman of the High Peace Council Salahuddin Rabbani.

This is President Karzai’s first visit since the democratic transition in Pakistan and the formation of the new government in June 2013. The visit reflects the readiness on both sides to work together for the furtherance of shared objectives of peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond.
