LAHORE: RAILWAYS Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has sought suggestions in writing from all the Pakistan Railways trade unions for the revival and improvement of the department.

Presiding over a meeting of all trade union office-bearers of the PR at headquarters on Friday, he urged labourers to work hard with discipline for the betterment of the department. He said the government had allocated Rs 31 billion for Pakistan Railways but the amount would be spent carefully. He said that everyone in the PR would be held accountable and the accountability process would be started from the top. The minister said politics in the department would never be tolerated.

He directed the labour unions to inform him directly about corruption if any in the department. He requested the workers to adopt the way of dialogue and apprise him of their demand before launching any demonstration, adding suspension of train operation was not in favour of the department.

Khawaja warned the encroachers to remove encroachment by their own otherwise they would be dealt with an iron hand. He said he would make surprise visit to the railway stations and divisions.

PR General Manager Junaid Qureshi said on the occasion that the department had earned Rs 2.5 billion during the last year with the support of the workers and the amount was being transferred to the division soon. (Courtesy: The News)
