Shahbaz asks US to cooperate in Pak peace efforts

LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said if the US is really sincere to end terrorism, it must cooperate with Pakistan in its peace efforts. Talking to members of the provincial assembly here Monday, he sought US cooperation in implementing the peace strategy of Pakistan.

He said given the current situation of unrest, economy had deteriorated and the progress of the country was facing serious hurdles. The CM said the drone attacks were blatant violation of the sovereignty of Pakistan, as such they must end.  The chief minister said maintenance of law and order was the top priority of the government as it was essential to achieve the goal of national development. He said drone attacks were against sovereignty and independence of Pakistan and added that terrorism had caused a lot of damage to Pakistan. Shahbaz said all possible resources would be utilised for the development of the province and prosperity of the masses.
Shahbaz further said that revolutionary steps were taken for the betterment of the people in the last tenure and even greater efforts were being made now for this purpose. He stressed upon elected representatives to play their due role for the eradication of dengue and maintenance of law and order during Muharramul Haram.
Those who met the chief minister included Asif Saeed Manais, Dr. Farrukh Javed, Ch. Asadur Rehman, Saeed Ahmed Khan Manais, Bao Akhtar Ali and Muhammad Nawaz Chohan.
The members apprised him of development projects and problems of the people of their respective areas. Provincial Minister for Agriculture Dr Farrukh Javed presented a cheque of one million rupees to the chief minister for the relief and rehabilitation of earthquake affectees of Balochistan.
Meanwhile, the chief minister while presiding over a meeting at Civil Secretariat to review the dengue situation and the steps taken for eradication of dengue issued necessary directions to departments concerned. Shahbaz reached Civil Secretariat by metro bus from Model Town to attend the meeting. He bought metro bus ticket as a common passenger and mingled with the common passengers, who prayed for long life and health of the CM and lauded metro bus as splendid project. The chief minister also talked to the students travelling by bus.
