UK Home Secretary lauds Pak role against terrorism

LAHORE – British Home Secretary Theresa May met Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, here on Wednesday.
Matters of mutual interest, law and order situation in the region and promotion of bilateral relations were discussed during the meeting. UK High Commissioner in Pakistan Adam Thomson was also present on the occasion.

Shahbaz Sharif during talks with the British Home Secretary highlighted the deep, friendly and historic relations between Pakistan and UK and commended cooperation by the latter in various sectors of Pakistan.
He informed the guest about the problem of terrorism facing Pakistan and the sacrifices Pakistanis have rendered in the war against this menace.
He said that the present government has adopted a comprehensive strategy to root out terrorism for which a unanimous national policy has been evolved in the recently held All Parties Conference.
The Chief Minister also welcomed the agreement reached between Pakistan and UK with regard to security and lauded cooperation of UK in various sectors including education and training of police in Punjab.  He said that we are thankful to British government for extending cooperation in imparting training to police on modern lines.
Shahbaz Sharif said that on the pattern of security system in London, command and control system is also being set up for further improving the security arrangements in Punjab.
He said that the government is paying special attention to getting modern technology for capacity building of police.
British Home Secretary Theresa May, on the occasion appreciated the efforts of Pakistan with regard to elimination of terrorism and assured that UK would continue its cooperation in this regard. The Chief Minister also hosted a luncheon in honour of British Home Secretary.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif telephoned Chief Minister Balochistan Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch in London, Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai and President PML-N Balochistan Sanaullah Zehri and expressed deep sense of grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives and destructions in earthquake in the province.
Shahbaz said that he is standing with Baloch people in this hour of trial and every possible relief and assistance would be provided to the affectees. The Chief Minister directed that relief items should also be dispatched to Balochistan by C-130 plane.
He directed Director General PDMA to remain in contact with Balochistan government to provide the required items on emergent basis.  The CM said that Punjab government would not leave the affected masses alone and every possible cooperation would be extended for their relief and rehabilitation.
